Happy New Year, Shibes! It’s been a while since our last blog post, but we’ve been busy getting libdogecoin ready for release, as well as working on some other exciting projects. Last year was significant, with the release and continuous improvement of our key initiatives: GigaWallet, LibDogecoin, and RadioDoge. This year, we’re enhancing these projects and introducing new ones, which will be announced next week on a freshly updated Trailmap. We’re excited to share what we’ve been up to and what’s coming up in 2024.

libdogecoin 0.1.3 is now available!

Since our last blog post, we’ve been diligently working on libdogecoin 0.1.3, which is now available for download. This release is the culmination of a year’s worth of work and we’re excited to share it with you. We’ve spent months testing and improving the library, adding numerous new features, including several from community members, such as support for Android. We’re eager to see what you build with it! You can find the full list of changes in the change log and download the latest version from the releases page.

2023 Retrospective

GigaWallet

Overview: GigaWallet is our premier backend service for Dogecoin businesses. In 2023, we enhanced its chain-tracker system, payment APIs and integration with Woo Commerce via plugins. Looking forward to 2024, we’re aiming to expand shopping cart integration to shopify and develop more user-friendly APIs and database options, facilitating the adoption of Dogecoin by online stores and social media platforms.

Libdogecoin

Overview: Libdogecoin, our foundational C library, saw significant enhancements in 2023, including SPV node and wallet capabilities, security and encryption, validation and platform compatibility. In 2024, we’re looking forward to further improving Python and Go language bindings and exploring advanced features.

RadioDoge

Overview: RadioDoge aims to expand Dogecoin’s reach to areas with limited internet connectivity using LoRa technology and the Starlink satellite network. In 2023, we achieved the significant milestone of facilitating the first Dogecoin transaction without the internet. In 2024, we’ll continue to develop the RadioDoge network and explore new use cases.

Community and Development Initiatives

  • Team Expansion: We’re welcoming new team members and look forward to introducing them in future posts.
  • Community Engagement: We’re strengthening our community partnerships and engaging actively on Discord channels.
  • Forum: Our forum is the discussion hub for projects and services.
  • Services: We’re offering tailored product integration and deployment support, as well as community engagement and knowledge exchange facilitation.
  • New Website: We’re working on a new website to showcase our projects and services.

Dogecoin Foundation and Developer Portal

  • Dogecoin.org: Dogecoin.org will serve as a counterpart to Dogecoin.com, focusing on developers. It will host the Developer Portal, Dogecoin Labs and the Trailmap, providing resources and a welcoming environment for new and existing developers.
  • Dogeorg: This GitHub organization and companion Discord server will advocate for and expand the Dogecoin developer community. It will offer project hosting, maintainership and a clear contribution policy. Additionally, the Dogecoin Foundation will operate a 501c3 charity in the US to provide funding for Dogeorg projects.

Specific Project Updates

  • Doge Standard: We’re focusing on creating a Dogecoin specification document and an independent functional test suite to verify compliance with the standard.
  • Dogecoin Core Wallet: Ongoing improvements include ARMv8.2 SHA runtime checks and integration of PRs to enhance wallet functionality.
  • LibDogecoin: Recent developments include Openenclave integration and progress on various pull requests to enhance the library’s capabilities.

With these developments, we’re more committed than ever to advancing the Dogecoin ecosystem. Our focus for 2024 includes enhancing our existing projects, introducing new initiatives like DogeBox and expanding our team and community engagement.
